Sermon On Hell Outline

I was a new convert. God had just called me to preach. I was 16 years old. My pastor took us to Mesa Baptist Church in Rio Rancho, NM. I had never been to a pastor’s conference. I did not know what to expect. As the service began, I knew that God was doing something, I just didn’t know what He was doing. Then a man stood up and preached a full sermon on hell. I was saved, so I knew that I would never go that place. Yet, God broke me…

I found myself at the altar crying out to God. I wasn’t crying out to God on behalf of my soul, for it is eternal kept by the Grace of God from the moment I was converted. I was begging God to save my father. Little did I know that I was on the altar the entire invitation. When I stood up, I realized that church had ended. I really don’t know how long I was praying for my lost family, but I knew someone had to pray for them because of the place called hell.

Since then,  I have heard very little preaching on hell. One doesn’t hear a sermon on hell in our churches of today. Yet, a sermon on hell is needed more today than ever. Old time preachers used to preach on hell as much as the Cross of Jesus. We live in a day and age when people do not want to endure sound doctrine. The Holiness of God demands that sin must be punished. The punishment is Hell. That is doctrine, yet people will not endure preaching of such a doctrine.

Also, the devil has done a “good” job in taking Bible terms and making them a by-word. People don’t make big of hell because it is nothing more than a common word. Christians are afraid to offend people with this vital doctrine of the Bible. Yet, people must be warned. We have taken the fire out of hell, and now people do not have a fear of God. We need more preaching on hell.

Hell was made for the fallen. Fallen angel and fallen man alike, rebellion demands justice in the eyes of a Holy and Just God.

Matthew 25:41

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Isaiah 5:14

Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

Fallen Angels

Isaiah 14:12-15 Revelation 12:3, 4, 7-9 Revelation 20:10

Fallen Man

Romans 5:12 Ephesians 2:1-5 & Ezekiel 18:20 Revelation 20:14, 15 & 21:8

We see that both fallen angels and fallen mankind deserve hell. We must look and see that is in the final abode of the wicked dead.

Isaiah 66:23-24

And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Matthew 10:28

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Mark 9:43-48

And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Luke 16:23-24

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Revelation 14:10-11

The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

As we see in a verse above, hell was not made for mankind. If that is the case, then God has a plan to save mankind from this place called hell. God loves mankind, which is why He sent His only begotten Son to save us from our sins. This is the great Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Death is the penalty of sin as we see in the above mentioned Bible verses on Hell. That being said, Jesus died in our place to pay the debt of sin. Jesus is the way of escape from this place called hell.

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ezekiel 33:11

Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Romans 10:9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If you have not asked Jesus Christ to save you from this place where sin must be punished, then I urge you to call upon the name of Jesus and trust what He did when died on the Cross and rose from the grave. Trust Him and Him alone to save you. Jesus is the only way to escape hell.

[fancy_header bgColor="#000000" textColor="#fff"]Rescuing People From Hell[/fancy_header]

For those that are saved, we need to warn others. They too can escape from hell. Will you warn sinners of their final destination?

Romans 10:13-17

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

2 Corinthians 4:3-5

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

Jude 1:22-23

And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

I pray that this sermon on hell will insprire someone to preach on hell. It is needed. People need to be warned. When it came to heaven and hell, Jesus mentions hell more than He mentions heaven, so even Jesus had a sermon on Hell. He had this sermon on hell so He could warn people. He came to seek and to save those on their way to hell.
