Bible Doctrine – Why So Much Confusion?

Bible Doctrine - Why So Much ConfusionAs mentioned in out last post on the importance of Bible doctrine, I am going to continue the study of Bible doctrine. Our next thought is going to answer the question:

Why is there so much confusion about Bible doctrine?

As you know, there are many beliefs regarding how a person is saved from sin and how they can go to heaven. The amazing thing is, a lot of these ways come from the realm of Christianity as a whole.

Why so many ways, yet one Bible? There are two reason why people get confused regarding Bible doctrine:

False Bibles

As mentioned in a previous article about the Baptist Faith, there is a line of Biblical texts that are pure and line that is impure. When there are multiple “Bibles” with different translators, who believe in different doctrines, how could one come up with a singular belief? There is confusion of doctrine because there is confusion of Bibles.

Plea For Power has always taken the route of the King James Bible. I will teach on this in the future, so for the sake of the article, let’s continue.

False Prophets

There has always been those who claim a message from God. The key to knowing if they are true is to compare what they are saying with the Bible. If their message doesn’t line up with Scripture, then they are wrong. You would be surprised to hear of how many that claim Christianity have experiences and beliefs that are not in alignment with the Bible. When confronted about the issue, they normally take their opinion over inspiration.

What is the root of all this confusion regarding Bible doctrine?

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1 Corinthians 14:33

From the above Bible verse, we see that God is NOT to blame for the problems facing Christianity and Bible doctrine.  In fact, when people come together under one accord in a local church, using the right Bible, then there will be less confusion.

That being said, it is the authors opinion that satan is responsible for such confusion. I have come to this conclusion:

Our power and direction comes from the Holy Spirit or it comes from satan.

There is no middle ground or grey area. Either God Himself is leading us, or we are going astray. Again, the only way to test the accuracy of a Bible doctrine or practice is to compare it to Scripture. While we have the Bible to test such teachings, there are many people that choose that which contrary to the Bible.

This is nothing new with mankind. The first step in not following God is to not believe what He says. While many will not out right deny God, they do by denying clear Bible doctrine. The first time this happened was in the Garden of Eden, which happens to be the first time satan communicated with humans:

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Genesis 3:1-6

Known as the fall of man, we find satan caused confusion regarding the spoken Word of God. There is a 4 step process of confusion which took place in this conversation:

Doubt the Word of God – The very first words from satan we find recorded are direct words questioning God and His Word: Yea, hath God said…? God did not tell Eve directly the rules of the garden, for it was Adam’s responsibility as the head of his home to teach her what God said. Therefore, the devil crept in and started questioning the Word of God.

While we were not present when God inspired the Holy Men of old, we still have the Word of God. The same life that was given when it was inspired is still in the Bible. Yet people still fall prey to the devil. Why? Because he is using the same tactic he used on Eve. He questions God and His Word, which causes us to question God and His Word. Regardless of what the devil has done to cause confusion, I am thankful that the Word of God is true (Click To Tweet That Statement). It has been tested and tried, and it still prevails.

Changed the Word of God – Next we find Eve entering the conversation. Simply put, she added to the spoken Word of God when she said: …neither shall ye touch it... God never said that she couldn’t touch it. In fact, how was Adam to keep and dress the garden if he could not touch the tree? See, Eve was not wise in the Word that was given, therefore when the tempter came, she fell prey and basically changed what God said to match her thoughts.

There are many Christians who are a lot like Eve in this scenario. They are not strong in the Word of God. So, when the devil tells them a lie, they simply believe it. We need Christians that can see the difference in what is right and what is wrong. Let me illustrate this for you. When a person is a banker, they are trained in detecting counterfeit dollars. How they are trained is simply amazing. They are trained by studying actual dollars, and not counterfeits. They know all the bills so well, after much training, that when a counterfeit is given, they can spot it without hesitation.

Like these bankers, we need to study Bible doctrine until it becomes extremely obvious when there is an error in someones teaching and preaching. We need a generation of people that get in the book until the book gets in them and shapes their lives. (Click To Tweet That Statement)

Deny the Word of God – Now the devil takes it a step further, because he already convinced Eve to question and change the Word of God. He proceeded to out right deny it, when he said: Ye shall not surely die. God said specifically, they would die when they ate. Do you see the digression here? First the Word of God was doubted, then it was changed, now it is being denied.

This is how many people get to this point. The devil doesn’t come out and say that the Bible is a lie. He always follows this pattern. He tried to do it in the temptation of Christ. His goal was to get Christ to sin. When the devil did this, he began with the Word of God. Jesus, being God the Son, knew the Word, because He is the Word. Therefore the devil did not prevail.

If it worked for Christ, then it will work for us. We must know the Bible so we don’t fall into the trap of denying he Word of God.

Reject the Word of God – As a result of this downward spiral of confusion, we find that Eve fell and led Adam to falling as well. They rejected the Word of God, though Adam knew it’s truth: …she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat…

One might wonder how Adam could fall this far from God in such a small amount of time. While I do believe in personal responsibility, the devil had a part in this, and it was the pattern mentioned. 6,000 years later, mankind is still falling into this trap. We now have a generation of people that have no regard for the Bible. This did not happen over night. It all starts with simply doubting the Word of God.

This downward spiral of false teachings and false prophets is what we are seeing in our day and age. We need people to be true to God and His Word, no matter the consequence.

Let’s stay true to Bible doctrine and remember:

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11
